The History

Welcome to The Farm! Built in 1891, it was christened Cedar Oak Farms largely due to its location. The farm is nestled up against a forest that has a beautiful “river” flowing through it which eventually empties into the “Mighty Mississippi.” The property itself is enveloped in hundreds of cedars and oaks which brings with it a multitude of wildlife.

In many ways we are a typical Midwest farm. We raise corn, soybean, vegetables, herbs, and beautiful sunny sunflowers. We are obsessed with our Isa Brown hens who demanded luxury accommodations, chandelier and all. We adore our kids, Nigerian Dwarf goats, who have personality aplenty, kittens, dog, and the random deer, fox, and other forest animal that wanders on the property.

In other ways we are atypical. We (mainly Ella) prefers long hours of hoeing to chemicals, relocating pests to stomping on them, and embracing thistle weeds as flowers which earns us a lot of eye rolling from many. Our philosophy is Holistic ~ Organic~ Gentle Farming. None of our animals are butchered. Instead they are put to pasture enjoying retirement in lazy ease. We (mainly Ella) found we become too attached to the animals to let them go.

This is Cedar Oak Farms; We open our farm and give seasonal farm tours on occasion. We will post any events in advance on the blog!
